Do Hair Styling Products Like GHD Hair Straighteners Damage Your Hair and Need Hair Repair?
Many of us strive for the ‘Just stepped out of the Salon’ look everyday. However, with regular use of high heat styling products such as GHD hair straighteners, heated curlers, dryers and other heated stylers we are putting our hair under massive strain. This can lead to all sorts of problems with damaged hair, spilt ends, even broken and cracked strands. This can result in hair being beyond repair and quite the reverse of a GHD, leading to bad hair days. Simple steps can be made to avoid the need for drastic repair to the damage hair by treating the hair with appropriate products before and after styling with GHD stylers or curling tongs.
There are serveral pre-straightening treatments available which you can apply to the hair before styling. Heat resistant sprays, creams, shampoo’s and serums are widely available and are essential if you use a high heat styler such as a GHD on a regular basis. The spray on type is probably the easiest to use. You should spray on liberally before straightening, curling or drying to protect the hair from heat damage. When using GHD’s of similar high heat hair straighteners you should section strands of hair with sectioning clips and spray a liberal amounts of the heat protection spray on each section before styling. Remember GHD irons heat up to a high temperature of over 210 degrees c so make sure you use a protective spray with a suitable resistance to avoid damage to your hair. If you hair all ready needs repairs to the condition then you should still use protective spray but you may with to use a repair serum on the hair to restore the moisture damage caused by using a GHD hair iron. For serious cases of hair damage where hair is beyond repair you may consider cutting the damaged section out and growing the hair out again.
Regular use of a heat damage protective shampoo and conditioner can be used in conjunction with a good thermal protective spray for everyday supplementary protection. You may wish also to limit the use of your GHD hair straighteners to avoid the need for extreme hair repairs remedies. You may think using a standard hair dryer will do hair no harm but used on a regular basis can cause drying out, split ends and broken strands, so make sure you still use a protective spray when simply drying your hair.
Professional hair stylists use GHD irons, tongs, wands and curlers everyday to give you that glamour look and this can be achieved at home but remember not to neglect your hair’s condition or your hair cauld be in serious need of extreme repairs.
