What is the Best Way to Detox?
What’s the best way to detox? Is detoxification necessary? Will it improve your health or the appearance of your skin? Let’s try and answer those questions.
Detoxification is probably more necessary today than ever before. We are exposed to a variety of toxins in the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, the foods that we eat and the things that we use on the outsides of our bodies, in other words, our health and beauty aids.
Thousands of years ago, Ayurvedic practitioners told their patients that they should never use anything on the outside of their bodies that they could not eat. Modern man has failed to heed that advice.
Read the warning labels on the products in your bathroom. You will see things like “not to be taken internally” or “contact a poison control center if ingested”. What those labels are really saying is that the things you are putting on your skin are poisonous.
There is no doubt that chemical compounds can be absorbed through the skin and enter the bloodstream. Researchers have found that artificial preservatives used in skincare products are absorbed through the skin and lodge in the tissues of our bodies.
If we could find the best way to detox, it would have to be a plan that would remove artificial substances and toxins from our cells, tissues and organs. There are some promising antioxidants and chelating agents that may be able to do that. The body has the ability to remove toxins. The big problem is the continued exposure.
Short-term exposure to a small amount of a toxic substance is not harmful, because the liver cleans the toxins out of the bloodstream. But, when you are exposed to small amounts of toxins on a regular basis, day after day after day, it creates a burden on the liver and the other bodily organs. Research groups have dubbed that the “body burden”.
What’s the best way to detox the organs and lower the body burden? Stop exposing yourself to the toxic substances.
Alcohol in small quantities is not particularly harmful. But, if you drink more than a glass or two of wine, every day, then you will eventually damage your liver.
Eating processed foods that contain chemicals and artificial preservatives on an occasional basis should not be harmful. But, if you eat packaged, processed and prepared foods on a daily basis, the chemicals will build up in your digestive system and your bodily organs.
The best way to detox is to eat more natural foods that you prepare in your own kitchen. Avoid prescription and over-the-counter drugs, whenever possible. They do tiny amounts of damage to the liver that can become permanent. Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all. Drink more water that you purify in your own home. Try to avoid drinking or eating out of plastic or aluminum containers.
Start using all natural skincare products that contain nourishing ingredients. They will help reduce your body burden and, if they contain the right ingredients, they could help you look younger, too.
So, that’s the best way to detox. No one can be perfect at all of these things, all of the time. But, making an effort will pay off in the long run. You may live a longer healthier life and look as young as you feel.
